Masculinity and the Modern Age
The sedentary living of modern life has changed Western society. It has especially effected men in the West. In the day to day cycle it’s easy to become trapped in the malaise. Many of the popular forms of entertainment in the past and now have involved fighting or competing for something. In video games one of the most popular genres is shooter games. The popularity of sports is also another example of this. The reason why this is because men have always universally across history looked for something to fight for. Simulated combat and competition has been a nearly universal past time for ages. Now that we’ve become a more technologically advanced society we have less to fight for. With no outlet for such warrior tendencies, men have become more occupied with all sorts and forms of fantasy.
Men have always had a desire to fight for the things that they value. Whether that be for families or their nation. The problem is that this desire has become stigmatized by modern society as if it’s evil. Wanting to fight for the good isn’t evil. It is a God given desire. Men are meant to be the protectors. Understanding that is what healthy masculinity is about. It’s not about being dominating, it’s about strength and emotions under control. Toxic masculinity isn’t a commonplace thing. The world has become a place with no external boundaries, where criminals get off easy. Which is why we need brave men more than ever.
As much as time has passed and technology has advanced, humans are still the same in many ways. Humans still possess the same internal nature that we always have. Men and women are both to be treated with dignity, and have different roles that are necessary to maintain the family and the civilization.
