There’s a theory called terror management theory which says that reflecting on the inevitability of your own death can cause you to change the actions that you decide to make in the present. You can’t add more time to the life you have. The only thing you can do is use the time in a purposeful and skillful manner. The more screen time you spend, the less motivated you will feel in life and the easier it becomes to get distracted. The reason why I believe escapism style entertainment is so popular in modern America is because of a lack of purpose in life. Many people work a job that leaves them lacking a sense that they did anything meaningful at all. Of course, not everyone is this way and most people enjoy the simplicity of work. But for someone like myself I’ve always had an innate desire to seek out something higher than just a day to day existence.
Everyone dies, but the key to manage what you have in the time before that is entirely up to you.
