To expand on what I posted a few days ago, here’s part 2. There are many valid reasons to be concerned about the advancement of AI. AI researchers have no built in safeguards to keep it in check. Like with any new emerging technology, the concern of safety doesn’t come up until something tragic happens. The only question is how damaging it will be on a civilization level. Superintelligence is such a new concept that figuring out safeguards is still a mystery itself.

AI is supposed to improve human life, but where does the level of automation end and human ingenuity continue? AI is made to be the servant of humanity, but possess enough processing power to make us it’s slave. The work that was originally meant for humans has become a burden to us, so now we have become more and more reliant on machines to do it for us. Eventually, the minimum amount of work needed to be done by a human will become less and less, until there’s little physical work left that is actually necessary. Other career pathways will open up and become prominent.

What we need is something new. More regulations won’t fix AI, we need more creators. We need more people in the world who are creatively gifted. Capable of freeing themselves from distractions and creating something that is timeless. It could take various forms, whether that be writing, music, or something other form of art. AI art may be coming but it won’t succeed unless humans do nothing with the gifts we have. The one thing AI lacks is authenticity. It can fake the style and imitate what humans have already created, but it can’t actually create anything new. When you compare a sentence written by an AI and a talented author it is easy to spot which one is which once you know what to look for. For one, AI tends to write more formally and use a greater range of vocabulary. Human authors tend to write with more emotion and less polish. It seems that most people who think about writing a book or creating music never actually sit down and do anything with it. While not everyone is gifted with it, those who do already know. The importance of refining these types of creative skills is that it is exclusive to humanity and is one of the most important things separating us from AI. In the future, it will become more important and in demand when we see the full prevalence of AI generated content. But if no one creates anything, then we let AI rule over one of the last domains that had always belonged to us: art.

While in the future AI may replace many things in our daily life, it cannot replace everything we have as humans unless we let it. It is easy to become hopeless and worried about future in the age of AI. Don’t allow your worries about the future to become a reality without doing anything.
