The increase of screen time on a mass scale has eroded the boundary between reality and fiction for many people. When you live a significant enough chunk of your life behind a screen, it erodes your sense of reality and how you perceive it. The more you live your entire life there from the moment you wake up to when you go to bed, the more it becomes real to you and you no longer can distinguish between reality. Right now, we haven’t seen a whole lot of the effects of this yet, but as this problem progresses along more and more I believe we will see more of it.
It’s not all doom and gloom though. Part of the effect of being unable to distinguish between reality and fiction is becoming consumed in worrying itself. Your fears then stray away from realistic concerns and instead into the worst possible scenarios.
In your life there has to be a balance between screen time and living in the real world. It’s so easy to want to pursue escapism and never return because of how lonely the real world has become. Your life is only what you make it. Your friends and those who you have a close relationship will be influenced by the choices you decide to make, whether that is deciding to become consumed by the algorithm or living with self-control. The coming world may sound depressing but there is always a hope.
